근대주화 LATE JOSEON/KOREAN EMPIRE COINS (건설 중)
Although most of the western world had moved to milled or struck coins much earlier, Korea did not see its first "modern" coins until the 1880s. Korea certainly saw a need to modernize its coins and began with cast silver coins in 1882, machine struck sangpyeong tongbo in 1884, and milled test specimens from 1885 to 1886. The very first modern coins were the milled cooper coins of 1888. Korea saw various types of modern coins through the 1910, when Japan annexed the country and introduced its own coinage for circulation.
